05 October 2016

A psychologist has become the first in the profession to receive an Honorary Associateship from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). Professor David Lane, Director of the Professional Development Foundation, was described as a ‘vital contributor’ to the advancement of veterinary education.  Lane has been involved in promoting the development of evidence-informed models for professional development in the field. He also created masters and doctorate degree programmes for the profession and was involved in the creation of the college’s Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (CertAVP) and its Advanced Practitioner Status in Veterinary Primary Care. His dedication to the field is said to have raised the profile of primary care, and enhanced the quality and standards of veterinary practice across the UK.  The Honorary Associateship is awarded to non-veterinary surgeons or nurses, who have made a significant impact in the veterinary field. Previous winners have included scientists, farmers, farriers, educationalists and journalists.
