Funding for disfigurement projects

The Scar Free Foundation offer awards to undergraduate students to help with living costs incurred during elective projects. Scar Free Foundation Elective Awards are worth up to £1,200 for research in the area of disfigurement and visible loss of function. The awards provide psychology students with the opportunity to broaden their perception and experience of research, during a 4 -8-week period

The Foundation welcome applications from psychology students wishing to undertake projects in either burn medicine and care or craniofacial care and treatment.

The Foundation say: 'Undertaking a Scar Free Foundation Elective would allow students to develop a project focused on the psychological aspects of burn medicine and care or cleft and craniofacial care and treatment. It will also provide an insight into conducting research at an early stage in your career.'

There are two ways of applying; The Foundation provides a list of supervisors and projects, and students are able to apply with their own projects and/or supervisors.

The Electives are competitive and are externally assessed by expert reviewers who look for rigour in research, quality supervision and the potential impact on the student’s future career.

Applications open on 29 November 2019 and close 31 January 2020. More information will be available at scarfree.org.uk when applications open.
