James Bane 1970-2021

James Bane, who tragically died in the course of his work on 28 September 2021, was an educational psychologist (EP) of 21 years. James trained to be an educational psychologist at the University of Nottingham in 1999-2000 and went on to work as an EP for Derby City for 19 years before moving to Derbyshire in 2019. James was an exceptionally well liked and talented psychologist, with a unique sense of humour. He is survived by his wife, Katherine, and his children, Jacob and Anna.

He was a man of huge integrity and care who was utterly committed to the children and families with whom he worked, always putting his whole heart and mind into understanding what James called the real ‘essence’ of the children. James was also a very funny man with a really unique sense of humour who brought a laugh to everyone who met him. Families and school staff who worked with James always spoke of him with great affection and warmth, often commenting on how he had taken time to listen and to really understand them and their situation. James was greatly loved by colleagues, past and present. He was always generous in sharing ideas, thoughts and resources with the rest of the team, all of whom learned from James something about being a good psychologist and a good person.
