Over the last two years, The Psychologist has discussed the increasing delivery of services online. James Skinner, Head of Talent Acquisition at My Online Therapy explains, ‘We’re a Top 100 UK Start-up launched in 2018. We identified the online trend early and aim to deliver high-quality psychological therapy through that channel. Obviously, the pandemic and its effects on mental health and wellbeing, have increased the demand enormously. We’re now completing thousands of therapy sessions every month and our successful partnership with Vitality Health can only strengthen that trend.’

What sort of resources and services does the company offer? ‘Face-to-face therapy via video or live chat within our own platform. We also deliver courses on topics such as anxiety and depression, written by experienced psychologists, via our Self-care app. This includes a library of audio courses and exercises drawing on multiple psychological models. There is more detail on our website (https://myonlinetherapy.com).’ James stresses that, ‘we work in innovative ways and look for constant improvement. Whoever joins us can become actively involved in shaping the future of the service and the company, feeding into the development of the app and how it’s delivered. We’re primarily UK based but have ambitions to offer our services internationally which will open up new opportunities.’

My Online Therapy is advertising both permanent and flexible 3–5-day roles and contracted hourly rate positions. ‘The most obvious feature of all these roles is the opportunity for flexibility. Psychologists can work from home, at hours to suit them, their families, and their clients. In addition, for psychologists who are developing portfolio careers, we offer roles with a steady flow of varied clients providing a sound basis for other activities.’

Many companies are facing the need for home and hybrid working. How can you ensure successful applicants will feel genuinely involved in the team? ‘Our psychological team have regular clinical supervision with an experienced clinical or counselling psychologists. And we all feel the senior clinicians are very visible and inclusive. We’re developing a full CPD programme for our psychologists at the moment. There are opportunities for training in specialist and new areas, apart from the induction on our systems.’

Was there anything else James wanted to add? ‘This is a real opportunity to pioneer new ways of delivering psychology, allowing committed and forward-thinking psychologists to help an even greater number of people. These are roles for people motivated by innovation and the ability to make a difference to peoples’ lives.’
